Keynote address by Rafal Baniak : Poland - Island of growth in Europe

All countries experienced negative impact of the economic world crisis and turbulences on financial market. Polish economy has proved to be well protected from its consequences. Sound management, sustainable financial policy, budget savings, growth of export competition together with zloty depreciation, as well as substantial use of European funds allowed us to achieve a high economic result. They made it possible for Poland to cope with the crisis better than most other developed countries.

Poland, as the sole country in Europe in 2009, recorded economic growth of 1.7%. Our annual export amounted to nearby 100 billion euro. In 2010 we count to obtain a GDP growth over 2%, while such positive conjuncture incentives as export growth, major infrastructure investments and record growth of European funds use to the level of 7 billion euro will boost polish economy. Poland holds the position of major beneficiary of the aid system in the current EU budgetary period. Financial instruments and measures dedicated to road construction, modernization of railways, airports and maritime ports, environment protection and construction of necessary infrastructure related to EURO 2012 will reach over 67 billion euro. It offers an excellent opportunity to attract foreign investors and develop cooperation with foreign entrepreneurs.

To sum up stable political and economic situation in our country allows profitable investment climate and international cooperation, especially in such perspective fields as infrastructure, construction and real estate industry, environment protection, as well as the national program of nuclear power plant implementation and development of high speed railways.
